Our Club History

History is where you will find the History of CUCKI!

Cameron CKI was first started in the late 1950s when Cameron University was formerly known as Cameron State Agricultural College and was a two-year junior college. From 1960 to 1962, Cameron State Agricultural College produced two Lieutenant Governor’s for the Red River Division - Tommy Fritz Grandfield (1960-1961) and Payton Sherman (1961-1962). The club straggled along for a few more years, but eventually went Inactive in the mid -1960s.

After many attempts throughout the years to reopen the club, the club was finally reopened in 2015. The Circle K International Club of Cameron University (CUCKI) was chartered with 34 members on November 20, 2015. The chartering board of officers consisted entirely of Freshman – Robbie Day (President), Sarah “Maggie” Collins (Vice-President), Rayquan Wallace-Lewis (Secretary), Megan Williams (Treasurer). Our founding Kiwanis Advisor was Dan Scraper, who worked to ensure that we always had a welcome seat at the weekly Kiwanis Meeting. In their first year as a club, they were recognized as a CU Five-Star Organization on campus and accumulated over 500 service hours and exceeded their goals that they set together.

The 2016-2017 Board of Officers consisted of President Arti Thomas, Vice-President Briaunna Austin, and Secretary-Treasurer Stacie Larson until December 2016. There was a big shift when Arti transferred to Oklahoma State University and Briaunna graduated in December. In that transition, Raven Milam nee Youngblood took over as club President and Hunter Collins took over as Vice President for the remainder of the 2016-2017 terms. Some of the highlights of this year included increased district attendance at District Convention and Fall Retreat, over 300 hours of community service, and worked with MSU, USAO, and other clubs in the area on division-wide service projects such as the DroverThon for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals @USAO and the Wichita Falls University Kiwanis Pancake Days. Throughout this time, there were also two club members serving on the Texas-Oklahoma District Board of Officers: Robbie Day as District Secretary, later Distinguished with Excellence District Secretary, and Megan Williams served as the Oklahoma Division Lieutenant Governor.

The 2017-2018 Board of Officers consisted of President Hector Perez-Aponte, Vice-President Jean-Christian Sayeed, and Secretary-Treasurer Jamal Sayeed. This year was about establishing consistency and regular service after dealing with heavy advisor transition and the flight of officers as none of the previous year’s officers returned to the club due to either transferring or dropping out. By the end of the year, the club grew to its highest membership since chartering. Even though the club was initially smaller throughout the year, the members who were involved were dedicated to the success of the club and committed to the idea of service as a way of life. There were three members who served on the T-O District Board. Robbie Day served as the District Governor, Rayquan Wallace Lewis served as the Red River Division Lieutenant Governor, and Megan Williams served as the District Editor until August 2017.

The 2018-2019 Board of officers consisted of President Rayquan Lewis, Vice President Ellie Wellborn, Secretary Tristan Adams, and treasurer Veronica Silverhorn. At the beginning of the year we had a decent recruitment season with approximately 10 attending our first meeting of the year. As we progressed, the club struggled to retain members due to the lack of leadership from the board. In the beginning of the second semester we acquired some new members with that developed a passion for this club. The current board cultivated them to be officers for the next year and after attending Dcon their passion for CKI was Ignited and they wanted to do all they could to grow this club to it's full potential.
